Cocktail Shakers

A shaker is a tool used to shake and mix the wine and other ingredients that make different kinds of drinks. It is essential for a beginner to implement the job of a bartender.

There are several kinds of shakers but two common types are Boston shaker and standard shaker.

Boston shaker has two sides, an inox jug, and a pint glass. Thus, this shaker is also called by another name – a mixing glass. A standard mixing glass should have a capacity of 500ml and the water level line on the glass. Therefore, if choosing shakers, you should note these points.

The second type is the standard shaker consisting of 3 inox components. The metal jug has a capacity of 240ml – 720ml, a built-in strainer, and a cap. A standard shaker has 3 different sizes: < 0.5l size, 0.5l – 1l size, and 1l – 1.5l size.

It is an indispensable tool for anyone who begins cocktail making. A jigger has many different sizes such as the cone shape, tall and small jiggers.

Strainers

There are two common types of strainers: Julep Strainer and Hawthorne Strainer.

Julep strainer is a large spoon-shaped strainer with many small holes inside. Julep strainer is used to filter fruit nuts when squeezing fruit juice into the cocktail such as lemon, orange … or remove ices. This strainer is fit to Boston Shaker so it is easy to filter when using Boston shaker.

Hawthorne strainer is also a spoon-shaped metal strainer with small holes inside.  It has a special spring that ensures that all fruits and herbs are removed out of the cocktail before mixing with other ingredients.

The opener consists of 3 parts: the knife head used to cut a layer of foil wrapped outside the wine cap; the spring used to pierce the cork and create a grip, and the lever part is to create a force to push the cork.
